Rick
Rose
singer / songwriter / performer / author

Growing
up in the honeymoon / daredevil capital of the world -
Niagara Falls, Canada, Rick spent his early years listening
to Bob Dylan, Neil Diamond and Johnny Cash records.
He
released his first single on WARPT RECORDS, a Motown cover,
"Where Did Our Love Go" with his first band LENNEX. The
band toured throughout Canada and the USA, as well as
Japan.
While
performing in the eastern USA, Rick was introduced to
rock producer MICK
RONSON (David Bowie, John Mellencamp, Lou Reed, Mott
The Hoople). Mick, impressed with Rick's singing style
and songwriting abilities, offered to start developing
Rick into a recording artist.
The
demo session Mick produced in Toronto created a lot of
excitement within the industry in Canada. Also, one song
made it to Toronto radio station Q 107's Homegrown contest,
resulting in a recording Contract with ATTIC - POLYGRAM
RECORDS. At this time the band (with a bit of a line up
change) changed their name to PERFECT AFFAIR.
Two songs from their debut LP found their way the top
twenty in Canada - "She's Got It" & " On The Edge". The
album achieved great sales & rave reviews in European
countries such as Finland, Sweden, France, Holland, Belgium,
England & Germany.
Soon,
career differences set in and Rick decided to pursue a
solo career. He headed south to Georgia, where he recorded
with producer Rodney Mills (Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd).
He also found himself co-writing with Roger Clinton (Bill's
brother).
Returning
to Canada, he again teamed up with his friend Mick Ronson
and spent more time writing. "Gypsy Jewelry", a co-written
track, won radio station 97.7 HTZ FM's local contest and
a limited amount of singles were released on Columbia
Records.
Playing
steadily, his reputation as a great live performer grew
stronger in New York State and Pennsylvania and The Rick
Rose Band was recognized as Top Original Act for 4 consecutive
years as part of the WESTERN NEW YORK MUSIC AWARDS.
At
this time in his career Rick decided to head to New York
City to seek new management. This is where his calling
was waiting. He started a team with DEE ANTHONY - the
most recognized rock manager in the business.
Dee
has managed acts from Tony Bennett, Peter Frampton and
Joe Cocker to Peter Allen, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Al
DeMiola, Gary Wright and many others. Rick
quotes, "Dee is the greatest coach anyone can have in
the music business. He has a strong sense of compassion
and determination for his artist."
Dee
and Rick set up a game plan for his ongoing career development
and before long Dee had placed one of Rick's compositions
in the Orion Film "Rude Awakening" starring Cheech Marin
and Eric Roberts. The song was the theme song for the
movie and was co-written with Paul A. Rothchild (The Doors,
Janis Joplin) and JIM
STEINMAN (Meatloaf, Celine Dion) and performed by
Righteous Brother, BILL
MEDLEY
At
this time Dee and Rick were ready to release an independent
CD of his songs, when they first decided to head for Nashville
to check out the songwriting market. Before long Dee arranged
an audition with Country Music Hall Of Fame songwriter,
Bobby Braddock, who agreed to listen to Rick sing a half
dozen of his songs. A few weeks later Rick was signed
as a staff writer at Sony
Tree Music in Nashville.
Rick
now who spends most of his time in Nashville, New York,
and Toronto, co-writing with hitmakers such as DESMOND
CHILD (Ricky Martin, BonJovi, Aerosmith), ANTON
FIG (David Letterman's drummer), MONTY POWELL (Brooks
& Dunn, Tim McGraw), TOM DOUGLAS (Colin Raye, Martina
McBride), TODD CERNEY (Cheap Trick, Loverboy), MARTY DODSON
(John Michael Montgomery, Lonestar), DAVE GIBSON (Alabama,
Montgomery-Gentry), NAIOSE SHERIDAN (Kim Stockwood).
He's
also been writing with New York based actor,
LOUIS
VANARIA
who starred in Robert DeNiro's, "A Bronx Tale"
and TINA SINATRA'S, "Young At Heart."
His
songs have also been recorded by a Canadian country artist
and German pop singer.
A
re-release of the Mick Ronson produced PERFECT AFFAIR
CD (with
bonus songs)
will be available in Europe and Japan on the PACEMAKER
RECORDS label.
Also,
a new Rick Rose CD will be released on the BANDANA MUSIC
label, with twelve songs co-written in Nashville and New
York.
